Ripple was developed as a global money transfer network designed to replace traditional payment systems such as SWIFT. XRP, the native cryptocurrency of Ripple, plays a central role in this system. It is primarily used to pay transaction fees on the network. With a fixed cost of just 0.00001 XRP per transaction, Ripple offers significantly lower fees than Bitcoin or most other blockchains.
