NIGHT and DUST

Midnight uses a dual-component token model. NIGHT is the transferable utility token. DUST is a shielded, decaying, non-transferable resource used to execute transactions on the Midnight network.

NIGHT is not spent directly for transactions. Instead, NIGHT generates DUST, and DUST pays for network operations. This separates token ownership from transaction execution and helps reduce metadata exposure. NIGHT transactions remain public and unshielded, while DUST is built for more private interaction with dApps.

The NIGHT token has a total supply of 24 billion. According to the tokenomics materials, NIGHT is minted on Cardano and mirrored on Midnight, with protocol rules intended to prevent the same token from being unlocked on both chains at the same time.
