Ergo (ERG) Crypto Exchange

Ergo was officially launched in 2019 by developers Alex Chepurnoy (formerly of IOHK and Cardano) and Dmitry Meshkov, both experienced blockchain researchers. Their goal was to create a more secure and efficient cryptocurrency that combines Bitcoin’s strong security model with advanced smart-contract features.

The ERG coin powers everything within the Ergo ecosystem. It’s used to pay transaction fees, reward miners, and run decentralized apps (dApps) on the Ergo blockchain. Since the platform is mainly about financial tools, ERG is the medium of exchange and the store of value in its ecosystem.

The maximum supply of Ergo is  97.74 million coins, meaning no new coins will be created after the cap is reached. This limited supply helps protect ERG from inflation over time.

Ergo (ERG) is the native coin of the Ergo blockchain. It runs on a Proof-of-Work algorithm called Autolykos, which was specifically designed to reduce the dominance of specialized ASIC machines—so mining with standard graphics cards is more feasible.

On the Ergo network, ERG tokens are required for virtually every transaction and smart-contract action—they work like fuel that keeps everything running.

Unlike many blockchains that use an account model, Ergo’s architecture is built around a UTXO-style system (often called “boxes”). But it doesn’t stop there: it adds smart-contract capability via ErgoScript, a flexible scripting language that allows for sophisticated contracts, privacy features and advanced financial tooling.
