Hack Ends on A Funny Note

Poly Network has remained a mainstay on media news for the past couple of days after an anonymous hacker stole crypto worth $600 million from the platform. Since then Poly Network has offered the hacker a rewarding bounty of  $500,000 and dubbed them “A White Hat”, which is a colloquial term for the “good guy” hacker.

Now there’s a new twist: Poly Network is offering the hacker a job at its company. This was disclosed in a tweet by the company which emphasized that “Mr White Hat” was cordially invited to be their "Chief Security Adviser". Poly Network earlier stated that while there were some misunderstandings between the network and Mr White Hat, they now understood Mr. White Hat's concern for DeFi and the crypto space, suggesting that Mr White Hat’s concerns align with their goals.

What was Mr White Hat’s response?

The hacker, who is still anonymous, responded to the job offer with a joke about Ethereum which Elliptic creator Tom Robinson had published on Twitter. It's unclear whether that implied a yes or a no.

Some experts forecast more blockchain companies offering rewards for ethical white hat hackers who spot bugs in the future. An ethical hacker whose name was undisclosed, suggested that bounty systems for hackers are vital for developing trust. Mr White Hat would not be the first “good guy” hacker on the block.  Recently, a hacker assisted decentralized exchange SushiSwap in avoiding a potential USD$ 350 million hack of their Miso token sale. A researcher at Paradigm, a venture capital firm, discovered a fault in the code and alerted SushiSwap, and is now working with the DEX to eliminate the problem.

Could Philanthropy Be the Next Application for NFTs?

There have been a lot of  discussions and conversations in the media on how to help estranged Afghan people affected by the recent Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.

Help has come from concerned organisations and individuals; one of those is Jack Butcher. Butcher, who is the founder of Visualize Value, has come up with the concept of putting NFT to charitable use by establishing a fund to provide relief packages to families affected by the crisis.

A care package or one care NFT  is set at $89 or 0.028 ETH. The money will go to Care.org, who has claimed it will be enough to cover one family's emergency needs for a month, including food, water, and shelter.

It's yet another intriguing real-life use of NFTs, and one of the ways digital solace/charity can transcend into tangible comfort.
