Aptos is a Proof-of-Stake Layer 1 blockchain protocol that works on the Move smart contract programming language. Move is a Rust-based language developed by Meta’s Diem blockchain developers.
The vision of the protocol is large-scale web3 adoption using DApps to solve real-world issues faced by users. The protocol’s PoS chain theoretically has a throughput of more than 150,000 transactions per second.
It was launched in 2022 and from April to September 2022 it managed to raise funds from venture capitalists and crypto big-wigs such as a16z, Tiger Global, Multicoin Capital, FTX Ventures, Jump Crypto and Binance. The valuation after Binance Labs’s strategic investment is $4 billion.
Aptos launched its mainnet on October 18, 2022 following which, the protocol airdropped tokens worth more than $1500 to each of its early adopters. This made it one of the largest airdrops in history.
APT is the native cryptocurrency of the blockchain.
