The main issues Polygon aimed to address were transaction fees and speed of the transaction on blockchains such as Ethereum. Polygon uses the Ethereum network as the main chain and utilizes a sidechain to tackle the issues mentioned above. The said sidechain provides a higher transaction speed, and lower fees. Polygon’s Plasma framework, built onto its PoS, also allows it to take in an unlimited number of DApps. The Merge refers to the merge of the existing execution layer and the Beacon chain, a new Proof-of-Stake consensus layer that was created in 2020 and has been running parallel to the mainnet. The Merge is predicted to decrease transaction costs and increase the number of transactions per second. That in combination with ETH being the second-biggest cryptocurrency on the market with smart contract functionality might change the minds of some crypto enthusiasts. Overall, it is up to you to decide whether you want to keep with the never-ending updates in the crypto industry, or you would prefer to play it safe and stick to assets that are a bit more predictable.
