What is NEO?
NEO is a blockchain platform founded by Da HongFei and Erik Zhang in Shanghai in 2014. Formerly named Antshares, it underwent rebranding in 2017, the new name — NEO — symbolizes a “smart economy”. The NEO network was made to utilize blockchain technology and smart contracts and help its users manage their digital assets. How Does NEO Work?
The NEO Network uses the dBFT (decentralized Byzantine fault-tolerant) consensus mechanism. The nodes need to be centrally approved, and the amount of supported transactions can be up to 10000 per second. There are two tokens in the NEO network: NEO token and GAS token (which is in turn generated by NEO token. While NEO coin is non-divisible, GAS coin can be used as a mean of payment for transaction fees. There is an algorithm that controls the inflation of GAS coin.

Upon its rebranding launch in September 2017, NEO coin price was approximately $22.6, skyrocketing in December and reaching its all-time peak in January 2018. The all-time lowest price of GAS coin is $1.14, which was in September 2019. As of now (November 2019), the prices of NEO and GAS tokens are $11.24 and $1.58 respectively.
